Michael Jones's public career spans four decades. From March 2005 until his retirement in January of 2015, he served as senior policy advisor to former St Louis County Executive Charlie A Dooley. Prior to joining the Dooley Administration Mike was the executive director of the Greater St Louis Regional Empowerment Zone. He served St Louis Mayor Clarence Harmon as chief of staff and deputy mayor for development from April of 1997 to December of 2000. In the 1980s he was a member of the St Louis Board of Alderman and was executive director of the St Louis Housing Authority. In March 2011, then-Gov. Jay Nixon appointed him to the Missouri State Board of Education. He is one of eight members responsible for statewide educational policy. Jones currently writes commentary for and serves on the editorial board of the St Louis American. A St Louis native, he is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St Louis.
